The hardware in the loop strategy is an extension to simulated testing and allows CMS to link actual components to the simulator outputs in real time in order to test their performance throughout the race duration. This could be done to determine frequency response, heating issues, reliability, durability etc. The simulated output can be supplied in real time across the internet to the team's local facility or if required the hardware can be set up at Cranfield.
